Yeena Yoo was elected to the DuPage County Board in November 2022, receiving the most votes for a county board race during the 2022 election. She represents District 2, which includes Oak Brook, Oak Brook Terrace, and portions of Elmhurst, Villa Park, Lombard, Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, Westmont, Downers Grove, and Lisle.
As a legal aid attorney, Yeena Yoo specialized in domestic violence and family law litigation for more than ten years. She currently works part-time at Catholic Charities Legal Assistance and previously worked for Legal Aid Chicago (the largest non-profit organization providing free legal services in Chicago/Cook County). She attended Washington University in St. Louis, where she earned her law degree and her Masters degree in Social Work. She received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Wellesley College, in Massachusetts.
Yeena grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, with her sister and parents who supported the family through their small business. No stranger to work, she helped her parents at their store, and later found work part-time outside of school beginning age 16. She dreamed of becoming a therapist, supporting women and children, and specifically survivors of violence. While in college, she realized that she wanted to become a stronger and more effective advocate for people facing multiple barriers to justice and resources, and decided to go to law school for that purpose.
Outside of work, Yeena devotes her time to her family, and is committed to her community. In 2021, she was appointed to the Elmhurst Senior Citizens Commission, and also serves on the board of the Elmhurst Heritage Foundation to support the Elmhurst History Museum. Because she deeply cares about public safety, families, and life-saving solutions, Yeena became a founding member of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in Elmhurst and served as the Chair for Elmhurst for two years. On June 28, 2022, Yeena was re-elected as the Democratic Precinct Commiteeperson for York Township’s 83rd Precinct.
She resides in south Elmhurst with her husband, David, and their two boys, ages 10 and 13.
